A new Uxbridge College qualification is boosting the number of Apprenticeship candidates on offer to west London businesses.
Uxbridge College’s Health and Social Care (HSC) Traineeship, which completed its pilot scheme last year, provides a springboard for successful completers to go straight into full-time Apprenticeships in the profession. A Childcare Traineeship has also been introduced at the College based on its success.
Charlotte Robbins, Course Team Leader Health and Social Care at Uxbridge College, said: “The new Traineeship programme in Health & Social Care was a great success and we are very pleased to be offering it again this year, as well as being able to provide the equivalent course for Childcare. Traineeships are ideal for students who have an interest in a profession but need to build their confidence, employment experience, or essential education and skills, before being ready for an Apprenticeship or further study. We would be very pleased to talk to both young people and employers who might be interested in getting involved in our Traineeships.”
The HSC Traineeship has been supported by west London employers including: West London Community College; Woodlands Care Home in Ickenham, which provides dementia care, respite care and day care, and Innovate Day Centre for the elderly community in Hayes.
Traineeships follow a similar pattern to Apprenticeships, with students going into work placements and receiving on-the-job training, as well as learning theory, literacy and numeracy at College and gaining a formal qualification if successful. Learners entering Level 1 programmes such as Traineeships are usually those who have left school with few or no good GCSEs, or who are new to formal education in the UK.
