London Irish agreed to play in Brentford Community Stadium

Yesterday morning, it was confirmed that a historic deal has been agreed on. London Irish has agreed to move back to the capital, and join Brentford FC at Brentford Community Stadium. The Exiles have been playing at Reading’s Madjeski Stadium for two decades now, but are returning to West London to play their games at the Brentford Community Stadium when it opens in 2020. The stadium is currently under construction but will be opened in 2020. Brentford FC and London Irish RFC will start playing there during the 2020/21 season.

The deal gives The Exiles the right to play in the stadium, but Brentford FC has primacy of use. The stadium has been built to host both premier league football and premier rugby games and is designed to suit the needs of both teams. The Brentford Community Stadium project will deliver a stadium together with more than 900 new homes, a new location for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, and a public square with shops and cafes, as part of the wider development of the Brentford East area.
