The BID’s Parcels not Pollution project has been awarded a Bronze Award in the Global Good Awards 2021.
The judges of the hotly contested category, Community Partnerships, sought out projects that clearly demonstrated how they
influenced their community, looked for creativity, innovation, integration and other impacts; and looked for lasting benefits that a
programme has created for the local community.
The BID is delighted to have been awarded a Bronze Award in this category, competing alongside other incredible projects including
Barclays’ Unreasonable Impact programme; OrchLab with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which facilitates music-making for
disabled adults; Aviva and the Red Cross; and RefuAid, the North West Refugee Nurses Programme, which is backed by England’s
chief nursing officer, Ruth May. RefuAid was the Gold winner in this category.
The shortlisted entry, Parcels not Pollution, is the BID’s zero-emissions delivery service that was launched in September 2019 in
partnership with TfL and Hammersmith & Fulham Council. Its objective is to reduce traffic, ease congestion and improve air quality in Hammersmith town centre.
The project uses electric cargobikes as a more sustainable way to deliver goods in the local area, enabling businesses to send
deliveries to a single location, before being sorted and delivered. When businesses were closed due to COVID restrictions, the service expanded to assist the local community with food parcel deliveries and has since developed an office-to-home offering to support hybrid working. Businesses in Hammersmith can claim a 50 hours of free deliveries as an introduction to the service.
Livia Caruso, Director of Public Realm at the BID, commented:
“The BID is committed to green investment and sustainability projects, as well as engaging with our community, and we’re delighted that Parcels not Pollution has been recognised within such a prestigious category at the Global Good Awards. We look forward to continuing our focus on these areas as we develop our Public Realm Vision.”
