Hammersmith BID is delighted to announce the return of its award-winning Summer Festival.
In 2020, the BID was unable to organise its usual programme of events. Instead, it worked creatively through the
COVID restrictions, bringing entertainment, dance and music to people’s doorsteps with street performers, dancers and singers for a Touring Kerbside Entertainment programme.
This summer, the BID is celebrating the safe re-opening of the town centre with its Summer Festival 2021 – an arrayof free, family-friendly activities across Hammersmith. The Festival started on 28 June and will run until 5 September.
The successful and much-loved BIG Screen returns to a new location at 245 Hammersmith Road, with free screenings of live sport, films and entertainment.
Key sporting events can be watched from the comfort of summer deckchairs and picnic tables, including Wimbledon
Tennis; the Tour de France 2021; and the Tokyo Summer Paralympics and Olympics 2021.
Films and other content will be shown in between a summer of global sport, starting with a screening of the
blockbuster musical film Bohemian Rhapsody, celebrating the end of Pride Month, and The Greatest Showman, which will be shown for businesses and families to celebrate the end of lockdown restrictions on 21 July. More details of Big Screen content can be found here.
The Big Screen is open to all and free to view. Louis Chapman, assistant building manager at Summer Festival partner 245 Hammersmith Road said: “At 245 Hammersmith, we are always looking for opportunities to bring amenity to the community. In partnering with Hammersmith Bid, we saw a chance to bring together the community and create a family friendly space for our occupiers and local residents. We market 245 as the “Heart Of Hammersmith”; this is at the core of the building’s ethos, from design and now through the management. Social impact has always been a key driver for us and our clients Legal & General and Mitsubishi Estate London. We are committed to implementing this throughout the lifecycle of the building, and as a result,
deliver enhanced social and local economic value.
As well as supporting the 245 team and our occupiers, we are devoted to championing Hammersmith as a stand-out location, including all of the wonderful organisations and people within it.”
Lyric Fest returns on 20 – 21 August. A partnership between Lyric Hammersmith Theatre and Hammersmith BID,
this will be a FREE fun-packed summer festival in Lyric Square, featuring live music, theatre, dance, family activities and more. The programme of activities will include live music, drinks and a BBQ on the Friday evening and a day of colourful and creative family events on the Saturday. More details can be found here.
Also part of the Summer Festival programming will be a series of unique musical recitals, delivered to lunchtime
audiences in St Paul’s Green; alongside picnic events, outdoor fitness sessions, environmental events and guided walks.

BID Director Patricia Bench commented: “The BID is delighted to welcome back our entire Hammersmith community and to celebrate with our Summer Festival programme. We continue to put our businesses first, offering their employees a vibrant destination to come back to; and we are reinforcing our town centre as a dynamic place for shoppers, visitors and hammersmith’s residents and working community.”
