Ealing looks for Borough of Culture support
Ealing is canvassing support for its bid to become London Borough of Culture 2019.
Inspired by the UK City and European Capital of Culture Programmes, the competition, launched by the Mayor of London, would, hopes Ealing Council, help them showcase how the arts and culture could help achieve their ambitions for a prosperous, healthier, safer, cleaner, fairer and accessible borough.
The London Borough of Culture will showcase the best of arts and culture in London. Winning the Mayor of London’s competition would bring in over £1 million of investment aimed at enhancing the borough’s cultural landscape.
The council is looking for support via a survey, the results of which will help develop the bid and also the council’s longer term planning for Ealing Arts and Culture Strategy 2018-2023.
The bid will be submitted on 1 December with the winner to be announced February 2018.
Since the competition was launched, Ealing Arts Forum have been discussing and developing ideas. In the run up to the bid is submission date, these ideas will, ssay the council, be shaped into a clear plan for how Ealing would use the prize money to showcase the arts in Ealing to leave a lasting legacy for the future of culture in the borough.
Ealing Council leader Julian Bell said: “Ealing has a lot to offer with many cultures and backgrounds being celebrated. We need to combine everyone’s ideas together to make sure we have the best chance of winning over £1 million.
“Ealing knows how to celebrate people and places, and reveal the value of culture in bringing everyone together to strengthen our community. We need to show how culture will contribute to making Ealing a great place. It’s a competition across London and we know we have a lot to offer and can win.”
