MAKE it a Valentine’s to remember!
We’re a sentimental bunch at CRL, so we’ve decided to put our own twist on this holiday and tell you all about some of the products we LOVE and why. For those that might suggest Valentine’s Day is a corporate construct (we don’t disagree!), but put that aside and give it a go, tell us about a product you love! Mat and Alice share theirs below.
In other CRL news, having won the coworking space of the year at the end of last month, our focus now is very much on deciding on the next cohort for our Accelerator programme. We had some incredible applications and we’re excited to share news of this with you all once it’s confirmed, and for the focus and character of this next cohort to emerge once we start working with them. Keep an eye on our website for updates.
The applications for the next Accelerator programme (Autumn 2018) will now remain open until the start of this next programme.
Please continue to scroll down for updates on our next event – Women in Hardware, 8 March – details on how apply for our next BOOST programme and our latest video.
Mat Hunter <3 Beasts of Balance
Beasts of Balance is a game of strategy and balance in which you build a tower of animals on your tabletop, then help them evolve in a connected digital world – www.beastsofbalance.com.
Mat says: “I love it not just because my kids and I have great fun with it, but because Beasts of Balance has so cleverly woven together the bits that kids like best (tablet computer games) with the bits that parents like best (classic board games). One for all ages!”
Alice Johnson <3 Blaze
The Blaze Laserlight is a beautifully designed bike light with a laser projection designed to tackle the biggest cause of cycling fatalities – vehicles turning across an unseen bike – www.blaze.cc
Alice says: “Blaze is a highly functional, innovative product, whilst also being beautifully designed. The trajectory of this startup is incredible; to see it rolled out by TfL for their Boris bikes is a testament to what UK startups can achieve”
CRL’s next event: Women in Hardware, 8 March
Our first meet-up of the year will be a joint event with Women In Wearables on Women In Hardware on 8 March at 6pm (International Women’s Day!). Sign-up to hear industry experts on the challenges and trends for their respective fields (wearables, femtech) in 2018. Event open to all, register via our eventbrite page.
Apply for BOOST: a scale up programme for hardware companies
BOOST is a fully funded programme, part funded by European Regional Development Fund, offering support in manufacturing, marketing and investment for companies who are taking products to market and looking to scale. The programme will run from April – July 2018.
We are now accepting applications for a limited number of spaces on this programme, download the ‘expression of the interest’ form here and send to alice@centralresearchlaboratory.com.
