In autumn 2017 Transport for London (TfL) consulted on proposals to transform roads in Hammersmith, Chiswick and Brentford town centres as part of Cycle Superhighway 9 (CS9). TfL did this in close partnership with their London borough partners and other key stakeholders. CS9 is an important part of the Mayor’s Healthy Streets Approach, which aims to make London a greener, healthier and more pleasant place to live and work through encouraging walking, cycling and the use of public transport.
TfL received over 5,000 direct responses and close to a further 1,000 campaign responses to our consultation. In February 2018 they published a factual summary of the consultation. The feedback TfL received has helped them to further improve the scheme’s design and they intend to proceed with our overall proposals. Subject to the further consultation and remaining stages of our decision-making process TfL plan to start building the route from Kensington Olympia to Brentford town centre in summer 2019.
TfL are carrying out a further consultation on two parts of the route, which have been redesigned in response to the feedback they received at consultation. These include the junction of Kew Bridge, Kew Bridge Road (High Street Brentford to Wellesley Road) and Chiswick High Road’s junctions with Duke’s Avenue and Duke Road.
